The Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm was awarded an agreement for lease by The Crown Estate on 11 May 2010. This will extend the existing Burbo Bank offshore wind farm by a further 258 MW (approximately).

The Burbo 90MW offshore wind farm uses Siemens 3.6MW turbines, the largest yet to be installed in UK waters. The Dong Energy project which starts generation in October was developed by Wind Prospect.
Vestas aims to start serial production of 80 metre blades in the second quarter of 2015, which will be used for the new 8MW turbine that has provisionally been chosen for Dong Energy’s Burbo Bank extension project in Liverpool Bay.
